Caramelized Banana Oatmeal

Caramelized Banana Oatmeal

The caramelized banana oatmeal is made with sweet and soft caramelized bananas served over creamy nutty oatmeal. Added crunchy walnuts, and a touch of chocolate melt for an amazing vegan breakfast.

This easy banana oatmeal will surely wake you up and get you ready for the day. It’s my all-time favorite oatmeal recipe! What I love about this banana oatmeal recipe is that it is refined sugar-free and so easy to make. The caramelized bananas are sweet enough to give your oatmeal a natural sweetness.

This recipe is very easy and quick to make, no long preparation or overnight fermentation, so breakfast can be served quickly and easily.

How to make Caramelized Banana oatmeal?

Ingredients that you will need to make the recipe –

  • Rolled Oats – I use rolled oats as they are super quick to make. Steel-cut oats take a little while longer to cook. Either of them can be used.
  • Milk or water – Milk for cooking creamy oats
  • salt – to taste
  • cinnamon – adds flavor
  • Vanilla extract – adds flavor
  • peanut butter – nutty flavor and an extra boost of protein to sustain you for a few hours
  • banana – of course!
  • maple syrup or brown sugar – adds sweetness
  • coconut oil – for coating bananas
  • nuts, coconut flakes, chocolate chips for topping

Tips:

  • Type of banana – Pick a banana that is just ripe. Bananas with just a couple of brown spots give you perfectly done caramelized bananas. Bananas that have green in them will not be sweet and it will take really long to cook. Bananas that are overripe will get mushy while being caramelized.
  • Pan – I used non-stick pan in this recipe(easy to clean and less oil), bananas get very sticky, so if you prefer iron skillet, make sure it is thoroughly seasoned and don’t forget to add an extra tbsp of oil.

Cook them for a few minutes, until they start to soften up.

Then, gently flip one and check the bottom. If it’s got some browning on it, start flipping the rest. Otherwise, give them a few more minutes. You may notice that the slices near the center of the pan cook faster than the ones near the edges, move them around if needed.

Be careful when you start flipping the bananas, you may need to do it gently one at a time. Cook until both sides are browned. Timing is the key here.

Mix in half of the bananas with oatmeal and then top the rest of it along with some nuts and chocolate. Now your caramelized banana oatmeal bowl is ready. Enjoy!
